We created the Bloom fund because we wanted to help Australians make a tangible and positive climate impact with their money. By using a unique methodology anchored in Climate Science, we’ve been able to create a portfolio that invests in scientifically-proven climate solutions.

As of January 2023, we have made 53 investments and we’ve been able to cover 50+ different climate solutions
CLIMATE IMPACT PROJECTS
Our portfolio invests across a range of asset classes, including a range of clean energy projects that are making a true climate impact every day. Below is just a snapshot of some of the projects you’ll find in our fund.

Investing in water with Kilter Rural
The Murray Darling Basin Balanced Water Fund invests in water entitlements in the southern Murray-Darling Basin to achieve the multiple objectives of securing water for agricultural use, aiming for a financial return and restoring threatened wetlands. Financial returns are generated through the leasing of water entitlements, the trade of water allocations and through the long-term appreciation of the Fund’s portfolio of water entitlements.

HOW DOES BLOOM PICK CLIMATE SOLUTIONS TO INVEST IN?
Our Investment team and Investment Committee use a positive screening framework based on the scientific climate transition models Project Drawdown and Climateworks. This ensures all our investments are aligned with climate solutions scientifically proven to decrease GHG emissions and help speed up our transition to a Net-0 Carbon economy.
Our ‘Climate Solutions’ are selected after several layers of screening. It’s an intense screening process—but it’s worth it. It’s much more than simply picking ethical ETFs. We eliminate the bad (bye dirty fossil fuels) and go the extra mile to find investments that are not only ethical, but have a positive climate impact that we can measure.
The Fund’s Climate Solutions range is wide and rooted in realistic impact. We’ve handpicked listed companies, but also unlisted assets such as green bonds, green loan providers, and even clean energy projects which were impossible to access for individuals to invest in until Bloom.
We also use some of the most stringent environmental, social and governance (ESG) methodologies available internationally, and evaluate several data points. Including climate targets ambition level and reporting, compliance with anti-modern slavery legislations and the company’s management of its relationships with its workforce.

WHAT CLIMATE RESEARCH AND FRAMEWORKS DOES BLOOM USE?
The science and the solutions we need are here. Now it’s up to us to invest in them.
We’re motivated by UNEP’s SDG13 on taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. So we created a portfolio that aligns with recommendations by two of the most robust climate science research organisations looking at ways to transform our economy to limit global warming—Project Drawdown and ClimateWorks.
Project Drawdown has modelled how society can transform to a better climate future today. It outlines 82 climate solutions and practices that can halt the production of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere by 2050. These independent knowledge pillars guide our positive climate impact modelling in-house. Bloom isn’t inventing benchmarks of it’s own. It’s following and supporting valid climate science.
WHAT TYPES OF PROJECTS ARE IN THE BLOOM PORTFOLIO?
We give you access to climate impact projects in Australia and across the globe. You’ll find a balance of some well-known and listed companies alongside niche projects that were not easily accessible to individual investors before Bloom.
Climate solutions include electric cars, distributed energy storage, solar photovoltaics, efficient trucks, recycling, offshore and onshore wind turbines, alternative refrigerants, forest protection, utility-scale energy storage, microgrids, grid flexibility, reduced food waste, water distribution efficiency, telepresence, alternative cement, farming irrigation efficiency, among so many more.

WHAT ABOUT FINANCIAL RETURNS?
You don't have to sacrifice sustainability for returns.
Once an investment has passed our impact screening, our Investment team performs a detailed financial analysis on companies to determine which ones are performing the best in their respective verticals.
We assess the overall business performance, profit forecast, capital structure, earning quality, growth potential, and other factors, to ensure the financial returns have been in line with the market.
MEET BLOOM'S CLIMATE INVESTMENT COMMITTEE
Our Committee is dedicated to combining their sustainability and finance know-how to curate scientifically-proven ‘Climate Solutions’ for the Climate Impact Fund.
